Retail Sales Manager

About the role:

The Retail Sales Manager plays a key role in driving business growth by leading sales initiatives, developing new opportunities, and fostering strong customer relationships. This position is responsible for overseeing the sales & merchandising team, achieving targets, and implementing strategic plans to support the company’s commercial objectives. A proactive approach to business development, key account management, and securing new business opportunities will be essential.

Working collaboratively across departments, the Retail Sales Manager ensures alignment with company goals while optimising sales processes and enhancing customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities:

  • Strong strategic and analytical thinking with a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and develop teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in supply chain management, manufacturing, or logistics.
  • Solid understanding of Lean, Six Sigma, or other operational improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent financial acumen with experience managing budgets and cost control measures.
  • Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations, compliance, and sustainability best practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field (MBA preferred).

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Health & Safety
• Maintain support for a positive HSE culture and assist the team in rolling out initiatives aimed at reducing the risks of accidents.
• Develop, implement and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in line with legislative requirements and industry best practices.
• Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations, ensuring timely reporting and corrective actions.
• Provide leadership and training to promote a safety-first culture across all levels of the organization.
• Work collaboratively with human resources in managing the Workplace Rehabilitation and Return-To-Work policy.
• Monitor and analyze safety performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Ensure emergency response plans and procedures are in place and regularly tested.
 

Environment
• Oversee environmental management systems and ensure compliance with regulatory and sustainability requirements.
• Develop initiatives to minimize environmental impact, including waste reduction, resource conservation, and pollution prevention.
• Conduct environmental audits and liaise with regulatory bodies as required.
• Support the business in achieving its sustainability goals and certifications.
Quality Assurance
• Develop, implement, and maintain quality management systems to ensure product and service excellence.
• Conduct internal audits, inspections, and quality control checks to maintain compliance with industry standards.
• Lead investigations into product or process non-conformance, implementing corrective and preventive measures.
• Work collaboratively with production and supply chain teams to improve quality outcomes.
 

Compliance & Reporting
• Ensure adherence to all relevant HSEQ legislation, standards, and company policies.
• Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and communicate findings to senior leadership.
• Stay up to date with changes in HSEQ regulations and recommend necessary adjustments to policies and procedures.
• Support certification processes (e.g. HACCP, SQT, ACO) and ensure continuous compliance.
• Manage Safety Culture software platform.
• Travel to the other warehouse at least monthly. 
• Completion of all relevant compliance requirements within given timeframes including: completion of all allocated 

SafetyCulture training sessions and inspection checklists; all Employment Hero related compliance requirements including document signing and policy acknowledgements, and completion of all IT / Cyber-related training modules (if applicable). 
• Any other duties as required

 

What Will Make You Successful in This Role Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Quality Management, or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in an HSEQ officer role.
• Strong knowledge of relevant safety, environmental, and quality regulations.
• Experience in implementing and managing HSEQ management systems and audits.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to influence and drive a culture of continuous improvement.
• Excellent management, leadership and communication skills
• Extensive experience in the Fruit and Vegetable industry is advantageous
• Attention to detail
• Ability to professionally conduct business between both internal and external stakeholders 
• Cert IV in WHS essential
• Previous experience with injuries/rehabilitation and return to work coordination.
